Dollar Tree is known for stretching your dollars further, but recent rumors suggest that this may change soon due to an upcoming price hike.

Now, you may remember that back in 2023, Dollar Tree announced that they would be raising prices up to $7.00 expanding their offering of items but are they actually raising the base price of items from $1.25 to $1.50 across the board? Let’s discuss the facts…

Dollar Tree’s CEO Admitted to Increased Prices
During the Dollar Tree Q4 2023 Earnings Call, Dollar Tree’s chairman and CEO, Rick Dreiling stated they would begin offering more products at the $1.50 up to $7 price point. Here’s his direct quote from the call:
“We are especially excited about the next phase of our multi-price expansion strategy. Dollar Tree’s chief merchandising officer, Rick McNeely, and his team are continuously working on new ways to deliver value while expanding our assortment across a wider range of price points. This expanded assortment will offer Dollar Tree shoppers a wider range of choices across a variety of categories, including food and snacks, beverages, pet care, personal care, and more. This year, across 3,000 stores, we expect to expand our multi-price assortment by over 300 items at price points ranging from $1.50 to $7.”
Since that time, we have already seen several items increase from $1.25 to $1.50. Here’s a list of Dollar Tree items that have increased (I’ve noticed at my local stores).

But does that mean that the majority of products would go from $1.25 (formerly $1.00) to $1.50 per item?
Well, no.
In that same earnings call, Dollar Tree’s chairman and CEO, Rick Dreiling continued his statement from above by saying this:
“But even as our multi-price assortment expands over time, the vast majority of the items sold in Dollar Tree stores will remain at our entry-level fixed price point. Over time, you will also see us fully integrate multi-price merchandise more into our stores so our shoppers will find $5 bags of dog food next to our traditional $1.25 pet treats and toys, and our $3 bags of candy will be found in the candy aisle. This is the next exciting chapter of the Dollar Tree value story: new items, more choices, and more savings.”
So, as of that meeting and to this current day, there has not been any OFFICIAL word from Dollar Tree or any word on a recent earnings call stating their base price would change from $1.25 to $1.50 meaning that the current rumors swirling are simply not true.

It is true that some items have increased to $1.50 which were previously $1.25 (examples like I provided above) but not the actual base price.
However, Dollar Tree has an upcoming Q4 2024 Earnings Conference Call that is happening on March 26, 2025 – 8:00 AM ET and during that call, we can expect to hear more about how the company did during Q4 along with any plans (if any) they may have regarding their stores, pricing, etc. So, you’ll want to keep an ear out for that.
So, what do you think? If Dollar Tree raises their base price to $1.50, would you still shop there?
