Health Benefits Of Apple Chips

Apples are a nutritional powerhouse. They are high in fiber, vitamin C, and a range of antioxidants. When made into apple cinnamon chips, you retain many of these health benefits while enjoying a satisfying crunch.

When you compare to traditional potato chips, apple chips offer a much lower calorie count while being rich in essential nutrients.

Regular chips can lead to empty calorie consumption with minimal nutritional return. So apple chips are an excellent choice to make.

Ingredients What You Need For This Recipe

To make delicious Air Fryer cinnamon apple chips, you’ll need the following ingredients.

  • Apples – use your favorite apple you can choose a Gala, Honeycrisp, or a Fuji. The sweeter the apple the sweeter the chips will taste
  • Cinnamon – adds that warmth to the crips
  • Sugar – I never use sugar but if you have a slightly sour apple you can add fine sugar to sweeten them

The measurements can be found in the recipe card below.

Optional Add-ins

Choosing The Right Apples

Start by selecting the best apples for your chips. Look for firm apples that are bright and have smooth skin.

Varieties like Fuji, Gala, Jonagold, or Honeycrisp will work beautifully, offering a nice balance of sweetness and tartness.

How To Make Air Fryer Apple Chips

  1. Thinly slice the apples using a sharp knife or a mandoline. Aim for slices of ⅛-inch thickness for even cooking and thinner will make the slices swirl through the Air Fryer basket. I find that I slice it thinner with my mandoline slicer compared to using a knife which impacts the cooking time.
  2. Lay the slices on a cutting board and sprinkle with cinnamon. Use a pastry brush to distribute the cinnamon over the apple. If the apples are sour or you like your chips sweet you can add fine sugar as well.
  3. Preheat the Air Fryer to 320°F/160°C for 2-3 minutes.
  4. Arrange the apple slices in a single layer in the air fryer basket, making sure they do not overlap. This promotes even cooking.
  5. Cook the apple chips for 5-6 minutes then check if they are dry and brown else extend with 1-2 minutes. For hand slices chips start with 8-10 minutes then check.
  6. Once the chips are golden brown and crisp take them out of the Air Fryer and let them cool. They will become even crisper as they cool.

Tips For Perfect Apple Chips

  • Avoid sogginess – Make sure your apple slices are thin. Thicker slices may lead to a chewy texture rather than the desired crispness.
  • Achieve desired crispiness – Keep an eye on the chips during the last few minutes. The chips can turn dark brown fast. Every Air Fryer is different, so you might need to adjust the cooking time and/or temperature for the perfect crunch.

Storage Tips

Make a big batch and store them in an airtight container in a cool, dry place. If stored properly, homemade apple chips can last up to a week.

Shelf Life And Freshness Tips

If you want to keep your apple chips fresh for a longer time, consider vacuum sealing them. This method can extend their shelf life to about a month without taking away their delightful crunch.
